ABOUT US

Turner Consulting Group offers a comprehensive approach to helping our clients understand their changing employee population and client base, and how to leverage that diversity for organizational success.

​Led by the Principal Consultant, Tana Turner, we help clients identify and 
meet their challenges in creating and managing a diverse workforce, delivering services to a diverse client population, comply with human rights and employment equity legislation, and develop diversity policies and programs that work. We also offer a broad range of learning programs, from human rights training to anti-racism training.

Tana works with a number of Associates who are not only experts in the field, they also have the lived experience that reflects a deeper understanding of the challenges and issues faced by people from diverse communities, backgrounds and identities. 
Our range of services helps organizations go beyond simply complying with human rights and employment equity legislation to develop an inclusive work environment. We also review and evaluate equity, diversity and inclusion plans, policies and programs to assess whether the organization has the infrastructure to advance equity.

Clients value our skills and experience, and also our commitment to working collaboratively to find solutions that best fit their organization. Our services are tailored to meet the individual needs of clients of various sizes and across all sectors.

Tana Turner, principal consultant, is a researcher, consultant, and advocate for social justice and systems change. She is a former provincial public servant and has worked in the field of equity, diversity and inclusion since 1987.

She is a leader in the field, having supported many organizations to implement the programs and practical steps needed to advance their equity journey.
Brenda C. James has over 35 years human resource experience and has been a senior practitioner in human resources and employment equity for the past 30 years. She is a former federal public servant and has worked with employers to meet their human resource needs and employment equity obligations in both the public and private sectors. As an expert in the field, Brenda has conducted human rights investigations, conducted human rights training and provided one-on-one coaching of staff and managers. 
Desiree Phillips is a Registered Psychotherapist, senior trainer, and equity consultant. Desiree uses her expertise in training, counselling, and advocacy along with a passion for equity to design and deliver various training and consultation activities worldwide, for numerous organizations across a range of sectors.

Thamina Jaferi
​Senior Consultant

Thamina Jaferi is a lawyer by profession (non-practicing license) and has extensive experience in the federal and provincial governments, municipal transportation industry and most recently in the higher education and the entertainment industries.

​She is a knowledgeable and passionate EDI practitioner, and enjoys working with clients on assessing EDI within their organizations and developing strategic plans to help remove barriers for diverse communities within a variety of sectors. She also has experience in EDI policy review and development, training development and delivery, implementation of EDI councils, and EDI issues management.

Yvette Barnes
Consultant & Facilitator
Yvette Barnes has a long history of working with and advocating for marginalized communities. She is a skilled facilitator and interviewer, and supports employee consultations for Equity Audits. 

​Yvette also designs and provides learning experiences on a range of topics.

Turner Consulting Group also maintains relationships with a number of independent consultants who are brought in to work on various projects as needed.

Desmond holds a Master of Education from York University.

He has over 10 years of experience supporting research projects. Desmond provides research and analytical support on a range of projects.

Brandon is a recent graduate of Carleton University with a double major in Law and Political Science. He provides research, analytical and technical support for a range of projects.

Majid Abbasi
Graphic Designer
Majid studied visual communications at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Tehran, and has over 20 years of experience as a graphic designer. He leads the design of all TCG’s reports and products.
He actively contributes to the international design scene as an instructor, jury member, curator and writer.

OUR EXPERIENCE

For the 20 years Turner Consulting Group has been operating, we have had the privilege of working on a numerous projects with organizations of all sizes in the non-profit, public and private sector.  The following are a small sample of the projects which demonstrate the depth and breadth of our experience.
